Links Are Dead - I Know

I keep getting Emails from people asking me to re-upload the links and music etc. I think people are just getting to those particular pages so are not reading the reason for the dead links.

So I am putting this in place so hopefully people will read it and stop Emailing me about it.

The reason the links are dead is that my account with Media Fire has been closed with all 11,000 files lost. That is why you can not download the things and No I can not re-upload them.

Eventually I will start doing that again when I have found something suitable. In the meantime this blog will be information only blog.

Thank you all

Michaael

Visage - The Anvil - Album

'The Anvil' is the second album from British pop group Visage, released in March 1982. The album reached number 6 in the UK and was certified "Silver" by the British Phonographic Industry in April 1982.

This album sparked a brief controversy at the time of its release for being named after New York's famous gay club.

The only musician of the first album line-up that didn't participate in this album's recording was John McGeoch. McGeoch commented in an interview "One time I was in Spain [touring with Siouxsie and the Banshees] at the same time as Visage were recording the second album in London. Rusty wanted me to put a guitar solo on something or other but I only had one day off and there was no way that I could fly home on my one day off. Rusty is not a man to be put off by such things and he was actually trying to put together a satellite linkup from Madrid to London for this one guitar part. Not surprisingly it didn't come off but I was sorry not to have been as involved on The Anvil as I had been on the first album".

The Anvil was also the last Visage project to feature Ultravox frontman Midge Ure who left the band after its release.

Tracklisting:
01 - The Damned Don't Cry
02 - Anvil (Night Club School)
03 - Move Up
04 - Night Train
05 - The Horseman
06 - Look What They've Done
07 - Again We Love
08 - Wild Life
09 - Whispers

Visage - Beat Boy - Album

'Beat Boy' is the third and final album by the British pop group Visage. It was recorded at Trident Studios between 1982 and 1983 and released on Polydor Records in September 1984 (delayed by contractual problems the band were having at that time). It reached number 79 on the UK album chart.

The album was recorded and released after Steve Strange decided to make Visage a live band instead of being solely a studio-based project, a decision that left him working only with drummer Rusty Egan and a trio of newer musicians.

Whilst the first two Visage albums had a typical synthpop/post-punk feel, Beat Boy attempted to mix the synthetic sound with American styled rock. However, neither the singles or the album itself had the impact hoped for, and effectively marked the end of Visage as a recording act.

Tracklisting:
01 - Beat Boy
02 - Casualty
03 - Questions
04 - Only the Good (Die Young)
05 - Can You Hear Me
06 - The Promise
07 - Love Glove
08 - Yesterday's Shadow
09 - In The Year 2525

Ferry Aid - Let It Be

Ferry Aid were a British-American ensemble group, brought together to record the song 'Let It Be' in 1987.

The single was released following the Zeebrugge Disaster, which had occurred on 6 March 1987 involving the capsizing of the MS Herald of Free Enterprise ferry, which killed 193 passengers and crew. All proceeds from sales of the single were donated to the charity set up in the aftermath of the disaster.

The recording was organised by The Sun newspaper, after they had sold cheap tickets for the ferry on that day. 'Let It Be' was written by Lennon/McCartney and originally recorded by The Beatles in 1969.

Artists to have contributed and performed solo spots on the song are as follows (in order of appearance):

Paul McCartney
Jim Diamond
Boy George
Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward and Nick Kamen
Paul King
Mark King
Taffy
Andy Bell
Pepsi & Shirlie
Mel and Kim
Jaki Graham
Gary Moore (guitar solo)
Mark Knopfler (guitar solo)
Kim Wilde and Nik Kershaw
Edwin Starr
Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot
Ruby Turner
Kate Bush

The closing choruses of the song feature an ensemble choir featuring many of the above performers as well other recording artists, including Bonnie Tyler, Errol Brown, Hazel O'Connor, The Nolans, Rick Astley, Jim Diamond, Doctor and the Medics, Alvin Stardust, Steve Strange, Mandy Smith, Su Pollard, Maxi Priest, Howard Jones, Samantha Fox, Linda Lusadi, Jimmy Somerville and members of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Go West, The Alarm and Bucks Fizz.

The B-side of the 7 inch single is a gospel version of 'Let It Be', made up on the spot by improvising. The 12 inch single has 'Let It Be (Mega Message Mix)' on the B-side.

Visage - Moon Over Moscow

'Moon Over Moscow' is a strange single as it was only ever released in Japan, in 1981, and does not always appear on Visage's Discographies.

There was a 12 inch promo available that included a mix of the track.

Visage - Tar

'Tar' is the debut single by the British pop group Visage. It was initially released on Radar Records on 7 September 1979, before the band had signed to Polydor. Although not a chart hit, the track is also available on Visage's eponymous debut album released in 1980.

The lyrics are centered around the habit of smoking cigarettes.

The b-side to the single is 'Frequency 7', a rapid synth song with robotic vocodor vocals. This version of 'Frequency 7' has never been re-released in any form since the original release of Tar in 1979 and is a rarity.

The more commonly-circulated 'Dance Mix' of the song is stripped of all vocals. This is also the sole Visage song where bassist Barry Adamson receives a writing credit.

Visage - Pleasure Boys

'Pleasure Boys' is the seventh single by the British pop group Visage, released on Polydor Records on October 29, 1982.

The track is the only one of the band's singles not to be taken from an album, though it was subsequently included on their 'Fade To Grey: The Singles Collection' compilation album in 1983.

It was also the first release by Visage after the departure of Midge Ure, who left the group due to creative differences with Steve Strange and also to concentrate on his role in Ultravox.

Possibly due to Ure's absence, 'Pleasure Boys' was the first Visage single to miss the UK top 40 (peaking at 44) after a string of five hits during the 1981-82 period.

The B-Side is a track called The Anvil. There was a German language version of The Anvil, made as a DJ white label 12" single only and later appeared on Fade to Grey - The Singles Collection (cassette version) and the Beat Boy CD release.

Visage - Night Train

'Night Train' is the sixth single by the British pop group Visage, released by Polydor Records on 11 June 1982.

It peaked at number 12 in the UK and was the band's final UK top 40 hit until a remix of their first hit 'Fade to Grey' was released in 1993.

The track was remixed for release as a single with the assistance of John Luongo. The original version appears on Visage's album, The Anvil.

Visage - Whispers

'Whispers' is a Japanese only single, which is particularly interesting because it contains a unique edit of Whispers that is not found any where else.

In 1982 TDK Japan made two TV adverts featuring Steve Strange, using Night Train and Whispers, both later released as singles in Japan.

Interesting feature is also the colour picture insert of the band photographed in the gardens of Munich's Schloss Nymphenburg with Japanese text biography and lyrics printed on the reverse of the vinyl.

The track was featured on the album Anvil.

Visage - Fade To Grey

'Fade to Grey' is the second single by the British pop group Visage, released on Polydor Records in November 1980.

The song was the band's most successful single. It became a huge dance floor hit and entered the singles charts in early 1981, peaking at number 8 in the UK Singles Chart and reaching number 1 in both Germany and Switzerland.

The song's structure was primarily composed by Billy Currie and Christopher Payne. While setting the track listing of the Visage album, Midge Ure composed the song's lyrics after Billy Currie suggested the use of the melody for the album. Steve Strange had singing lessons with Ure in order to maintain himself in tune and be recorded. Gary Numan commented in interview for the Numan Digest: "As far as I'm concerned Chris and Billy were the driving force behind writing 'Fade to Grey'. They used to work on it during the sound checks on my '79 tour. Cedric [Sharpley, who was the drummer of the Gary Numan's backing band] was also heavily involved. In those days it was called 'Toot City'".

On the UK Channel 4 show "Top Ten New Romantics" in 1999, Steve Strange claimed to have been the one who came up with the idea for the French vocal in the track (a statement disputed by Midge Ure who claims this idea was his). The French vocal was performed by Brigitte Arendt, a young student from Luxembourg who was Rusty Egan's girlfriend at the time.

A remix by Bassheads/Andy Stevenson was released in 1993 to promote the compilation album with the same title, becoming a modest Top 40 hit. Several other artists have made their own versions of this song.

In 2008, Strange appeared on the BBC series Ashes to Ashes performing the song in the Blitz nightclub.

Visage - Mind Of A Toy

Visage was formed in 1979 by Steve Strange, Rusty Egan, Midge Ure and later Billy Currie and was quickly linked to the burgeoning New Romantic movement of the early 1980’s. In March 1981 Visage released their fourth single ‘Mind of a Toy’. It was backed by ‘We Move’. The A-side was a remixed version of a song that first appeared on their self titled debut album. The B-side ‘We Move’ was a non album track. The single reached number 13 in the UK charts.

Visage - The Damned don't Cry

Following their earlier success, Strange struggled to reunite the band's members again to record a second album because of their commitments with their respective bands (Ure and Currie with Ultravox, Formula with Magazine, and McGeoch with Siouxsie and the Banshees). However, in the autumn of 1981 all musicians (except McGeoch) went into the studio again and recorded the album ‘The Anvil’. The album was released in March 1982 and became Visage's first (and only) UK top ten album, producing two top twenty singles with "The Damned Don't Cry" and "Night Train". The Damned Don’t Cry made it to number 11 in the UK charts continuing the earlier success of the band.
