Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas

A new version was recorded under the name of Band Aid II in 1989, produced by the popular Hit Factory team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman and featuring a number of the year's most accessible artists, including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Lisa Stansfield and Bros. Bananarama also appeared, making Sarah Dallin and Keren Woodward the only artists to appear on both versions (although they couldn't be heard on the first). The song again reached #1 for Christmas, raising more money and also making it the final number-one single of the 1980s and it was final song to be played on Top of the Pops in the Eighties, whom of it was the original version of the song.

This version, released in 1989 was produced by British songwriting and production team formed of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman known as Stock Aitken Waterman. The only artists from the original Band Aid to be featured again on this version were Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward of Bananarama. This version topped the UK Singles Chart for three weeks, but ultimately achieved far less historical significance and status than its predecessor.

On Friday 1 December 1989, Bob Geldof called Pete Waterman to ask if he would consider producing a new version of the song featuring the big stars from that time. Waterman immediately cancelled his wedding (planned for that very day) and began calling up the artists. With just two days' notice, on Sunday 3 December, recording took place at PWL Studios in South London. Present in the studio was Bob Geldof, wife Paula Yates and six-year-old daughter, Fifi Trixiebelle, who was eager to meet Jason Donovan.

Production continued through the Monday, and by Tuesday 5 December the song was aired for the first time on London's Capital Radio. Advance sales of the record reached 500,000 and a number-one was inevitable. The song was released the following week on 11 December and spent three weeks at number one, becoming the 9th biggest selling song of the year, outselling Madonna's "Like a Prayer".

Kylie Minogue - Kylie Album

'Kylie' is the debut album by Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue. It was released by PWL on July 4, 1988.

'Kylie' was a number one album in the United Kingdom, and it produced three number one singles in Australia. In North America the album peaked low on the Billboard Charts, yet still impressively managed to sell over 500,000 copies and was certified gold. Later on the album continued selling strong and reached Platinum status.

In Australia, the album was re-issued as The Kylie Collection and featured bonus remixes. In January 1989, Kylie was certified six times Platinum in the UK, and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.

Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky

After the success of her debut single 'Locomotion' in Australia, Minogue traveled to London to work with Stock, Aitkin and Waterma.

They knew little of Minogue and had forgotten that she was arriving; as a result, they wrote 'I Should Be So Lucky' in forty minutes while she waited outside the recording studio. Mike Stock wrote the lyrics for the song in response to what he had learned about Minogue prior to her arrival. He believed that although she was a successful soap star in Australia and very talented, there must be something wrong with her and figured that she must be unlucky in love.

Minogue recorded the song in less than an hour, which Stock attributes to her good ear for music and her quick memorization skills. After Minogue finished the recording session she returned home to Australia to continue work on the soap Neighbours.

The music video was directed by Chris Langman and filmed in November 1987 at Channel 7 Studios in Melbourne, Australia. The video features Minogue walking through her home, with scenes of her dancing in front of a colourful chalkboard background intercut throughout. It presented a cute, wholesome, young "girl next door" image of Minogue to the public, with scenes of her giggling and making funny faces to the camera.

'I Should Be So Lucky' entered the UK Singles Chart on 9 January 1988 at number ninety, before rising to number one. It maintained the number one position for five weeks and became the third biggest selling single of the year with sales of 672,568. In Australia, the song reached number one on the single chart and became the country's highest selling single of 1988. In the United States, the song peaked at number twenty-eight on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Minogue's first US top forty release.

Kylie Monogue - The Locomotion

'The Loco-Motion' is a 1962 song written by American songwriters Gerry Goffin and Carole King.

After an impromptu performance of the song at an Australian Rules Football charity event with the cast of the Australian soap opera Neighbours, Kylie Minogue signed a record deal by Mushroom Records to release the song as a single.

The single was released on July 28, 1987 in Australia, Sweden and Italy under the title 'Locomotion'. The song was a success in Australia, reaching number one and remaining there for seven weeks.

The success of the song in her home country resulted in her signing a record deal with PWL Records which enabled Kylie to work with the successful team Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who had produced the single.

The 1988 release of the song in the UK debuted at number two on the singles chart — the highest entry on the UK singles charts by a female artist — due to strong 7" single sales and radio airplay. It remained in the number two position for four weeks before falling to number three. With sales of 440,000 it was the 11th best selling single of the year. The song became Minogue's third top five rated single in the UK and remains one of her most successful single releases to date.

During late 1988, Minogue traveled to the US to promote 'The Loco-Motion', where she did many interviews and performances on American television. 'The Loco-Motion' debuted at number eighty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and later climbed to number three for two weeks. The song was Minogue's second single to chart in the U.S., but her first to reach the top ten.

The music video was filmed at Essendon Airport and the ABC studios in Melbourne Australia.
