Spider - Between The Lines - Album

'Between The Lines' is the second album released by the US band Spider. 

Released in 1981 the second album is a more focused record than Spider's self-titled debut, so it's ultimately more enjoyable.

Their attitude doesn't sound quite so forced, and the arrangements are very pleasing, especially compared to the more chaotic first album.

Between the Lines also includes two tracks that were hits for other artists several years later: 'Change' (a moderate hit for John Waite) and 'Better Be Good to Me' (revamped by Tina Turner on her Private Dancer album).

Taken from the album '223B', 'Who Says' is a classic Adult Oriented Rock track produced by Mike Chapman.

The single peaked at number 79 on the hot 100.

As you may all be awaire, over the last couple of weeks I have featured songs by Holly Knight. 

Whether it be in her bands Spider or Device or solo.

Well here is her only solo album.

'Holly Knight' is the dubut solo album (and only album released) by the singer songwritter Holly Knight.

Released in 1988 I don't know if it ever charted.  I know it ddn't here in the UK.

Holly Knight - Heart Don't Fail Me Now

'Heart Don't Fail Me Now' is a single released in 1988 by the US singer songwritter Holly Knight.

Released from her debut album 'Holly Knight' this was to be her only single release from the album.

The single features Daryl Hall on background voculs.  I have to say that I don't know if this ever charted anywhere.

Michael Des Barres And Holly Knight – Obsession

'Obsession” was originally written and recorded as a duet by songwriter Holly Knight and musician Michael Des Barres in 1983, although the recording did not perform well.

This version was prominently featured in the 1983 film A Night in Heaven, most notably in a scene in which Christopher Atkins bumps and grinds in Lesley Ann Warren’s face in sync with the rhythm of the song.

The song was featured on the film’s soundtrack, but did not receive enough attention to warrant much radio play or a place on any Billboard charts.

That version was also featured in the theatrical trailer to the 1986 film 9 1/2 Weeks, starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger.

The track was covered in 1984 by the Synthpop-New Wave group Animotion. The song hit number six in the United States, and number five in the United Kingdom in early 1985, helped by a distinctive video that received heavy rotation on MTV.

Spider - Spider - Album

Spider released their first album in 1980 entitled'Spider' under the Dreamlands Records Label.

The album failed to chart in the UK but managed to make it to number 130 in the Us Album charts.

Device - Hanging On A Heart Attack

Device released their first single in 1986 entitled 'Hanging On A Heart Attack'.

It's a great emaple of 80's Pop/Rock and managed to make it to number 35 on the american Hot 100 chart.  It failed to chart anywhere else.

I got to hear this on one of my local stations that sometimes played music from America and just loved it and had to have it. Took me a while but got there in the end.

Device - 22B3 - Album

Device was a short-lived American pop-rock trio formed by keyboardist, bassist and vocalist Holly Knight, vocalist Paul Engemann and guitarist Gene Black.

Device's only album, '22B3', was released in the spring of 1986.

Better known as a songwriter, Knight started her career with the band Spider during the early 1980s.

The album made it to number 73 on the US Album charts  In anycase it's a good album with a very 80's cover.

Tina Turner - Better Be Good To Me

Well I had put up the original version of this single so here is the hit version.

'Better Be Good to Me' is a hit single from Tina Turner's solo album, Private Dancer.

The song had originally been released in 1981 by Spider, a band from New York City with co-writer Holly Knight as a member.

The Turner version was successful in the United States on the Hot 100 and the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart. It peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number six on the US R and B/Hip-hop chart. At the 27th Grammy Awards in 1985, this song won Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female, one of four Grammys won by Turner in that ceremony.

The song was featured in the tenth episode of Miami Vice and was included on the first volume of the Miami Vice soundtrack.

In the video Tina Turner is seen performing this song on stage. She is wearing a black leather jacket, and black skin tight knee length leather pants, with leopard print high heels and spikey blond hair. Towards the end of the song a man appears on stage (Cy Curnin of The Fixx), grabs Tina's arms and Tina looks him in the eyes and sings the words "Why can't you be good to me?" to him and then pushes the man away. At the end of the video Tina disappears under the stage in a puff of smoke. Both Curnin and the guitarist in the video, Jamie West-Oram (also of The Fixx), perform on the Private Dancer album.

Spider were an American rock band from New York. They formed in 1977 and disbanded in 1984.

They didn't release many singles but this one entitled 'Better Be Good To Me' was not a hit for the band but was a big hit when it was covered by Tina Turner in 1984.
