Ferry Aid - Let It Be

Ferry Aid were a British-American ensemble group, brought together to record the song 'Let It Be' in 1987.

The single was released following the Zeebrugge Disaster, which had occurred on 6 March 1987 involving the capsizing of the MS Herald of Free Enterprise ferry, which killed 193 passengers and crew. All proceeds from sales of the single were donated to the charity set up in the aftermath of the disaster.

The recording was organised by The Sun newspaper, after they had sold cheap tickets for the ferry on that day. 'Let It Be' was written by Lennon/McCartney and originally recorded by The Beatles in 1969.

The B-side of the 7 inch single is a gospel version of 'Let It Be', made up on the spot by improvising. The 12 inch single has 'Let It Be (Mega Message Mix)' on the B-side.

Kim Wilde - Water On Glass

'Water on Glass' is the third single by British singer Kim Wilde from her self titled album.

A slightly different version of the song was featured on Wilde's self-titled debut album. It was released in the UK, Ireland and The Netherlands only with the non-album track 'Boys' on the B-Side. It just missed becoming Wilde's third consecutive UK Top 10 hit.

The song is about tinnitus, a medical condition that causes ringing in the ears

Kim Wilde - You Keep Me Hanging On

'You Keep Me Hangin' On' is a 1966 number-one hit song originally recorded by The Supremes for the Motown label.

Written and produced by Motown's main production team Holland–Dozier–Holland, the song became The Supremes' eighth number-one single, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for two weeks in November 1966, and the number one the soul chart for four weeks.

'You Keep Me Hangin' On' was covered in an updated version by British singer Kim Wilde in 1986. It was released as the second single from Wilde's Another Step album (although 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' was the LP's first worldwide single, as the first single had been released only in selected countries).

Wilde's version was a total re-working of the original, completely transforming the Supremes' Motown Sound into a 1980s power pop song. She and her brother, producer Ricki Wilde, had not heard 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' for several years when they decided to record it. The song was not a track they knew well, so they treated it as a new song, even slightly changing the original lyrics. It became the biggest hit of Wilde's career, reaching number 2 in the UK singles charts as well as hitting the top spot in Europe and Australia. It also became Wilde's only major hit in the US, spending a week at number one in 1987.

Incidentally, since Wilde's recording was popular during the evolution of sample-based hip hop, a short drum break in her version has become one of the most sampled pieces of audio ever. In 2006, she performed a new version of the song with the German singer Nena for her Never Say Never album.

'Young heroes' is a track from Kim Wilde's 1981 debut album.

That album was released in America in 1982, while this single, made in Peru, came out in the same year.

'Young Heroes' was not a single in any other country, although a flexi disc from Russia does also exists.

Kim Wilde and Mel Smith - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree

'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"' is a Christmas song written by Johnny Marks and recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958. Although Decca released it in both 1958 and again in 1959, it did not sell well until Lee became a popular star in 1960; that Christmas, it hit number 14 on the US Billboard pop chart and turned into a perennial christmas favorite.

The single continued to sell well during the christmas time, hitting number 5 on the Christmas chart as late as 1984. Brenda Lee's recording still receives a great deal of airplay. Despite the song's title, its instrumentation also fits the Country genre which Brenda Lee more fully embraced as her career evolved.

Kim Wilde recorded this track together with Mel Smith in order to raise money for Comic Relief in 1987. Some extra comedy material was added to the track, written by Mel Smith and Griff Rhys-Jones. The duo named themselves 'Mel & Kim' after the then popular duo Mel & Kim.

The Anti-Heroin Project - Live In World

'Live in World' was released as a single in 1986 by The Anti-Heroin Project which consisted of Fish, Nik Kershaw, Cliff Richard, Dave Stewart, Holly Johnson, Robin Gibb, Kim Wilde and many others who all contributed their voices and music to the project.

The Eighties saw an explosion of charity records following on from the lead of Band Aid and Live Aid.

'Live in World' was taken from the double album released under the project name that contained various artists that contributed their work in support of the benefit The Phoenix House Charity which was a drug rehabilitation centre. The single was the track that contained vocals from over fifty artists, that took place on the 7th September, on a new song written by Charley Foskett. The Anti-Heroin Project was not very successful: neither the single nor the album charted.

I have to say that I did not ge the album when it was released. This was strange as it contains artists that I was heavilly collecting at the time so I'm not sure why this passed me by. If any one has the album to share then I would be greatul.

Kim Wilde - Never Trust A Stranger

'Never Trust a Stranger' is the third single from 'Close', the sixth original album by Kim Wilde.

Remixed from the original album track by producer Ricki Wilde, it was released as a single in the autumn of 1988 following the best-selling hit 'You Came' and several European tour dates supporting Michael Jackson.

'Never Trust A stranger' became another big hit Wilde in Europe, reaching number 7 in the UK singles Chart, number 11 in Germany, number 2 in Austria, number 20 in France, number 12 in Sweden, number 5 in Irland and number 4 in Switzerland and Netherland.

An extended version of the single remix was released on the 12" and CD-single formats, and a different remix ('Sanjazz") was released in the UK on an alternative 12" single.

Fletch is a 1985 comedy film about a wisecracking investigative newspaper reporter, Irwin M. Fletcher (Chevy Chase), who writes under the name of Jane Doe. The film was based on the popular Gregory McDonald Novels, the screenplay was written by Andrew Bergman and it was directed by Michael Ritchie.

Kim Wilde - Kids In America

Kim Wilde released her debut single 'Kids in America' in January 1981. It became an instant success, reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart and scaling the Top 5 in other territories such as Germany, France and Australia. Although it achieved only moderate success in the US charts, peaking at number 25 when released in 1982 The single is often regarded today as Wilde's signature song.


The song was recorded in 1980 after RAK Records boss Mickie Most heard Wilde singing on a backing track for her brother Ricky Wilde. He liked her voice and image and expressed an interest to work with her. Ricky Wilde, together with his father Marty Wilde (a 1950s/1960s rock and roll star) wrote the song for Kim to record. Once the demo was sent, Most remixed the track himself and released it on RAK Records. The song was backed byn 'Turning in Turning On' on the B-Side.

'Chequered love' was Kim Wilde's second single and it was another big success. The single was released in 1981 to follow-up Wilde's hugely successful debut 'Kids In America'. As with that single, writing credits were given to Wilde's father and brother Marty and Ricky Wilde with the latter also being given production credits.

'Chequered Love' became another big hit for Wilde, reaching the number 4 in the UK singles Chartaand peaking inside the Top 10 all around the world. The song later appeared on Wilde's self-titled debut album. It has become one of her most famous and enduring songs.
