Dance Craze - Soundtrack

Dance Craze is a 1981 British documentary film about the English 2 Tone music genre.

The film was directed by Joe Massot, who originally wanted to do a film only about the band Madness, who he met during their first US tour. Massot later changed his plans to include the whole 2 Tone movement. The film, shot in 1980, comprised performance footage of Madness, The Specials, The Selecter, The Bodysnatchers, The Beat and Bad Manners on tour throughout the United Kingdom.

A soundtrack album of the same name was released the same year, featuring fifteen of the songs that were featured in the film

The Beat released their third single entitled 'Mirror In The Bathroom'. Taken from their debut album 'I Just Can't Stop It' the single made it to number 4 on the UK Singles Chart.

The Beat - Jeanette

In 1982 The Beat released their 11th single entitled 'Jeanette' from their album 'Special Beat Service'.

'March of the Swivelheads', an instrumental version of the Beat's song 'Rotating Head'. was chosen as the B-Side.

This B-Side track was also used in the climactic chase scene of 1986's Ferris Bueller's Day Off; the band was listed in the end credits as The (English) Beat.

The Beat - Tears Of A Clown

'The Tears of a Clown' is a 1967 song by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles for the Tamla (Motown) label, originally released on the 1967 album Make It Happen.

The song was re-released in the United Kingdom as a single in September 1970, where it became a number-one hit on the UK singles chart.

Subsequently, Motown released 'The Tears of a Clown' as a single in the United States as well, where it quickly became a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B Singles Chart.

In November 1979 The Beat, or English Beat as they were known in the U.S., released their debut single, entitled 'Tears Of A Clown'. This was their first and only release on the 2 Tone record label. The B side was 'Ranking Full Stop'.

Neither track initially appeared on an album but both were added to their debut, 'I Just Can't Stop It', on a subsequent release. The single reached the number 6 spot on the U.K. singles chart.

The Beat - Hands Off She's Mine

The Beat, known in North America as The English Beat, are a 2 Tone ska revival band founded in England in 1978. The Beat were formed in Birmingham, England during a period of high unemployment and social upheaval in the United Kingdom.

Their songs fuse ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk rock, and their lyrics deal with themes of love, unity and sociopolitical topics.

'Hands Off She's Mine' was released as the second single by The Beat in February 1980. The single appeared on their first album release entitled I Just Can't Stop It. 'Hands Off She's Mine' managed to make it to number 9 in the UK singles Chart while making number 22 on the US Dance Chart.
