Links Are Dead - I Know

I keep getting Emails from people asking me to re-upload the links and music etc. I think people are just getting to those particular pages so are not reading the reason for the dead links.

So I am putting this in place so hopefully people will read it and stop Emailing me about it.

The reason the links are dead is that my account with Media Fire has been closed with all 11,000 files lost. That is why you can not download the things and No I can not re-upload them.

Eventually I will start doing that again when I have found something suitable. In the meantime this blog will be information only blog.

Thank you all

Michaael

Solid Gold Easy Amex featuring Red Box - Enjoy

In 1990 Red Box scored a club hit with 'Enjoy' which was essentially a remix, by Paul Oakenfold, of an old B-side, under the Solid Gold Easy Amex name.

This record charted at Number 75 on the Independent Radio's Network Chart (also used by Number One Magazine) but missed the Gallup UK Singles Chart as used by the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles.

Red Box - Train

After the success of 'The circle and the Square' and its singles, things went rather quiet for some time.

Due to increasingly strained working relations between the band and the record company, Julian Close left to work in A&R and Simon Toulson-Clarke took time out from writing and recording in order to travel.

In the late Eighties Toulson-Clarke was persuaded to record a second album. Together with new partner Alastair Gavin and producer David Motion he made the album 'Motive'.

'Train' was released as the first (and only) single from that album and failed to enter the charts.

Don't know if a video was ever made for this single. If anyone knows about one and has it to share then please let me know. Thank you.

Red Box - Heart of the Sun

'Heart of the Sun' was another single released in 1987 from Red Box's debut album 'The circle and the square' . After the chart success of the single 'For America', and ' Lean on Me' the record company was hoping for another audience favourite. Unfortunately, this release stalled at number 71 in the UK singles chart.

Due to increasingly strained relations between the band and their record company, Julian Close left to work in A&R and Simon Toulson-Clarke took time out from writing and recording in order to travel.

Red Box - For America

Following on from the success of the previous single 'Lean On Me' Toulson-Clarke responded to WEA's request for something to appeal to American radio.

With this in mind the bnd came up with the sardonic 'For America', which lambasted what he saw as the style-over-content approach of the American media, as well as alluding to American military involvement in Grenada and Nicaragua.

The song was not a hit in the USA, though it did reach the top ten in several countries as well as the UK Singles Chart, where it spent twelve weeks in the chart including two at number ten.

Red Box - Lean On Me (Ah-Li-Ayo)

After Red Box signed to Sire Records and released their single 'Saskatchewan', there must have been some doubt whether the band would make a success as the single did not chart and some record company executives must have felt panic. These days, the band would probably have been dropped immediately.

however, the record company followed through with 'Lean on me', which proved t0 be a more successful track. It would prove to be the biggest hit of their career, peaking at number 3 in the UK Singles chart.

Red Box - Chenko (Tenka-io)

Simon Toulson-Clarke formed his first band at age thirteen with school friend Paddy Talbot, playing covers of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple as well as some self-penned material. On leaving school he moved to Middlesborough and formed another band in the vein of the New York Dolls. In the late Seventies he went to study at The Polytechnic of Central London, where he formed a band with Julian Close. This band took on the name Red Box after a while and included further band members Paddy Talbot, Rob Legge and Martin Nickson.

The group released their debut single 'Chenko' on the Cherry Red label in 1983. The single failed to chart. Following this, the band slimmed down to a duo, and took on a more synth pop direction.

The single was revamped and re-released following the success of 'For America' and 'Lean on Me'. Released in 1987 as 'Chenko (Tenko-io)' the single again failed to chart anad became the final single of the 80's by the band.
