Spangs - Who Invited You anyway

The second single by the Group Spangs was entitled 'Who Invited You Anyway'.

Released in 1981 the single didn't manage to light up the charts and the band disbanded not long after that.

Other than this I cannot find out any other information on the group.

Still this is another example of getting a single on the cover alone.  A great find.

The Scoop were a New Wave / Punk band from the early 80's.

'Panic' was the bands only release which was released on Towerbell Records.

The Aces - One Way St.

After Menace split up at the end of 1978, the last remaining members started The Aces. 


The band were Steve Tannet (Vocals, Lead Guitar), Charlie Casey (Bass, Vocals), and Noel Martin (Drums, Vocals).


'One Way St.' was released in 1981 and was to be the London mod revivalist bands only single release.


The title track is a brilliant song which provides an example of mod / punk / powerpop.

The Pedestrians - Computer Fantasy

'Computer Fantasy' is a single by the group The Pedestrians.  Released in 1981 it was produced by Jolley And Swain.

It didn't trouble the charts but is a catchy song.

I never kept the B-Side which was called '1984'.  Any one has that I would be happy to share it to others and complete this collection.

Spider - Between The Lines - Album

'Between The Lines' is the second album released by the US band Spider. 

Released in 1981 the second album is a more focused record than Spider's self-titled debut, so it's ultimately more enjoyable.

Their attitude doesn't sound quite so forced, and the arrangements are very pleasing, especially compared to the more chaotic first album.

Between the Lines also includes two tracks that were hits for other artists several years later: 'Change' (a moderate hit for John Waite) and 'Better Be Good to Me' (revamped by Tina Turner on her Private Dancer album).

Yukihiro Takahashi - Drip Dry Eyes

Yukihiro Takahashi (高橋 幸宏 Takahashi Yukihiro, born June 6, 1952) is a Japanese musician, who is best known as the drummer and lead vocalist of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, and as the former drummer of the Sadistic Mika Band.

Takahashi released his 4th solo single in 1981 entitled 'Drip Dry Eyes'.

Taken from the album 'Neuromantic', also released in 1981, the single failed to chart as far as I know.

Berlin Blondes - Marseille

The last single released by the group Berlin Blondes was released in 1981.

The band had parted from their record label and had lost some members of the band but decided to release a further single on an independent label Scratch Records.

Again the single failed to trouble the charts and the band disbanded.

Champaign - How 'Bout Us

Well it is Valentines day today so I thought I would share a couple of songs that I just love.  So here is the first.  Enjoy.

'How 'Bout Us' is a 1981 hit single recorded by R and B music group Champaign and composed by band keyboardist Dana Walden.

Originally released on the band's debut album of the same name, the title track peaked at number 12 on the US Hot 100 and number 5 on the UK Singles Charts. Of Champaign's seven charting singles, the song remains the group's most successful.

'How 'Bout Us' peaked at number 4 on the soul chart and was one of three releases to make the top 10 on the soul chart. The song was on the Hot 100 chart for 23 weeks, peaking at number 12 on 6 June 1981, and also reached the top of the Adult Contemporary chart for two weeks. The title track of Champaign's debut album and their first single, the tune combines instrumentals, traditional background vocals repeated multiple times, and poetic verses performed by Champaign's lead vocalist Pauli Carman to create a sound similar to other ballads released during the time.

Both the song and the album it debuted on where acclaimed by Allmusic who called it "a smooth, well-crafted pop-R and B topped by the creamy vocals of Pauli Carman and Rena Jones. This debut is a pop hybrid that sounds very promising, although the group never followed through adequately."

Spider - Better Be Good To Me

Spider were an American rock band from New York. They formed in 1977 and disbanded in 1984.

They didn't release many singles but this one entitled 'Better Be Good To Me' was not a hit for the band but was a big hit when it was covered by Tina Turner in 1984.

Auto-Mod - Aoto-Mod EP

Another example of getting a record and not knowing anything aout the band but getting it on the cover alone.  Interesting cover I have to say although the single has never really been a fav of mine.

This is from a Japanese group called Auto-Mod and is their first single from 1981. An EP of 3 tracks.

I have no idea if this ever charted.

Dance Craze - Soundtrack

Dance Craze is a 1981 British documentary film about the English 2 Tone music genre.

The film was directed by Joe Massot, who originally wanted to do a film only about the band Madness, who he met during their first US tour. Massot later changed his plans to include the whole 2 Tone movement. The film, shot in 1980, comprised performance footage of Madness, The Specials, The Selecter, The Bodysnatchers, The Beat and Bad Manners on tour throughout the United Kingdom.

A soundtrack album of the same name was released the same year, featuring fifteen of the songs that were featured in the film

Thompson Twins - Perfect Game

Thompson Twins released their thired single in 1981 entitled 'Perfect Game'. 

The single would eventually appear on the groups first album entitled 'A Product Of (Participation)'.

Like the previous two singles released by the band this one also failed to trouble the singles chart.

Adam And The Ants - A.N.T.S - Blue Fexi Disc

Adam And The Ants released a One sided Blue Flexi Disc that came free with issue 4 of the Flexi Pop magazine in1981.

Entitled A.N.T.S. it took the disco hit Y.M.C.A, by the Village People and changed the lyrics, turning it into yet another ode to Antmusic for Sexpeople. Pretty funny.

Vangelis - Chariots Of Fire - Soundtrack

Well yeaterday I posted the single from the motion film Chariots Of Fire.

Today is the turn of the Soundtrack to the film.

Chariots of Fire is a 1981 musical score by Greek electronic composer Vangelis (credited as Vangelis Papathanassiou) for the British film Chariots of Fire, which won four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Original Music Score.

The album topped Billboard Top 200 for 4 weeks.

The album reached number 1 in the sales charts of various countries, including 4 weeks at number 1 in the U.S. In total, the album stayed 97 weeks in the Billboard top 200, selling 3 million copies in the first year alone.

The album reached number 5 in the UK album charts and stayed in top 100 for 107 weeks.

Kraftwerk - The Model

'Das Model' (spelling on album: 'Das Modell'; English version title: 'The Model') is a song recorded by the electro-pop group Kraftwerk in 1978; written by musicians Ralf Hütter and Karl Bartos, with artist Emil Schult collaborating on the lyrics.

It is featured on the album, Die Mensch-Maschine; English version title: The Man-Machine. It is one of the band's most accessible and melodic songs.

First released as a 7 inch single in Germany (B-side: 'Neonlicht'), under its English translation the song was eventually included on the B-side of the 'Computer Love' single released in July 1981, which reached number 36 in the UK charts.

When radio DJs started playing the B-side, EMI re-issued the single in December 1981 – apparently against the band's wishes – with 'The Model' as the A-side. It reached number 1 in February 1982 and spent a total of 21 weeks in the top 75 of the UK singles charts.

Hall And Oats - I Can't Go For That

'I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)' is a song recorded by Daryl Hall and John Oates.

It was the fourth number-one hit single of their career on the Billboard Hot 100 and the second hit single from their album Private Eyes. It features Charles DeChant on saxello.

In the US the single was released in December 1981. However in the UK the single was not released until 1982.

On January 30, 1982, 'I Can't Go for That' ended a 10-week run at the top of the Hot 100 by Olivia Newton-John's song, 'Physical' (which had knocked out Hall & Oates' 'Private Eyes' from the top spot). The song also went to number one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart for one week in January 1982.

Thanks to heavy airplay on urban contemporary radio stations, 'I Can't Go for That' also topped the U.S. R and B chart, a rare feat for a non-African American act. According to the Hall and Oates biography, Hall, upon learning that 'I Can't Go For That' had gone to number one on the R and B chart, wrote in his diary, "I'm the head soul brother in the U.S. Where to now?"

In the UK the single was another hit as it reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart.
