Sylk - Lu La Lay (Spirit Of Love)

'Lu La Lay (Spirit Of Love)' is a single released in 1980 by the band Sylk.

The band consisted of Joanne Whyte and Lee John (from Imagination, going under the name Lee instead of the now familiar Leee).

The single is very much in the style of the Goomby Dance Band but enjoyable and great to hear something very different from the Imagination singles as Leee singles different on this track.

I do have a request.  I do not have the B-Side of this single.

The B-Side was called 'Bobby Joe'.  so if any one has this it would be great to have it.

Imagination - In The Heat Of The Night - Album

Well for my 1000 post I had put up 'In The Heat Of The Night' single. To kick start the next 1000 posts I decided to put up the album frmo Inagination.

So here goes.....

'In the Heat of the Night' is the second album by British soul/dance group Imagination, produced by Steve Jolley and Tony Swain and released in 1982.

In the Heat of the Night was Imagination's most successful album, reaching number 7 in the United Kingdom.

'Just an Illusion' was the group's highest charting single, peaking at number 2 (kept off the top spot by the Goombay Dance Band's 'Seven Tears'), and also making the top 10 in several other countries in Western Europe and Scandinavia. It was covered by Destiny's Child on their self-titled album and Mariah Carey sampled this song for her hit Get Your Number in her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi.

'Music and Lights' was another UK top 5 hit, and 'In the Heat of the Night' and 'Changes' also charted.

1000th Post - Imagination - In The Heat Of The Night - Single

Well this is a bit of a milestone for me as I have worked out that this is my 1000th post that I have posted since the start of my blog over 2 years ago.

When I started this blog I never thought I would last this long in time let alone manage to make it to 1000 posts. I have to say that over the time the blog has given me a lot of pleasure as I rediscover songs and albums that I havent listened to in a long while.

So here is to this 1000th post and to the next 1000.

Well to round of the 1000 post I thought I would give you all another slice of Imagination, the group that started it all off for me.

Imagination released their 6th single entitled 'In The Heat Of The Night'. Taken from the album of the same name the song is sultry and one of my favourites.

In the UK the single made it to number 22 in the Singles Charts while making number 48 in the German charts. However it was in the Netherlands that the single faired better by reaching number 14.

Imagination - Looking At Midnight

Imagination released their ninth single entitled 'Looking At Midnight' in 1983.

Following on from the successful 'Changes' single in the previous year, 'Looking at Midnight' did better by getting to number 29 on the UK Singles Charts.

Imagination - Instinctual

The 19th single to be released by Imagination was entitled 'Instinctual'. Released on RCA Records in 1987 the single made it to number 62 in the UK Singles Charts and was to be the bands last chart entry.

The single did however make it to number one on the dance charts for one week.

There are 2 versions of the video that was made. The normal video and the Uncencored version.

'Just an illusion' was written by Leee John and Ashley Ingram from the band Imagination, together with their producers Steve Jolley and Tony Swain.

The smooth soul sound of the track appealed to a lot of listeners making it the bands biggest hit, peaking at number 2 in the UK Singes chart, when it was released in March 1982.

'Music and Lights' was the 5th single released by Imagination in 1982 and provided yet another great example of the bands brand of music that was becoming ever popular.

This single was taken from the bands 2nd album 'In The Heat Of The Night' and followed the ever popular single 'Just An Illusion'.

The single made it to number 5 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming their 3rd most biggest hit while the single made it to number 52 on the US R and B Chart.

Today is the first anniversary of me starting my blog. I never thought it would last this long and that it would generate interest so I am happy to be passing this first of many milestones.

On that first day I posted as my first post Imagination - New Dimension. I thought that it would be only fitting to post the first post of the next year as another Imagination post (as you can never have enough of them LOL). So here is ....

After the success of 'Body Talk', Imagination released their 2nd single in 1981 titled 'In And Out Of Love'.

Continuing the soulfulness of the previous single this only reached number 16 in the UK Singles Chart.

Imagination - Body Talk - Album

Body Talk is the debut album by British soul/dance group Imagination, produced by Steve Jolley and Tony Swain and released in 1981 . It is one of the earliest albums of its genre to have a distinctive 'British' sound as opposed to being an attempt to recreate contemporary American styles.

The title track was an immediate hit, reaching number 4 on the UK singles chart. Two further singles, 'In and Out of Love' and 'Flashback', also reached the top 20. The album itself peaked at number 20.

Body Talk proved to be an enduring album, with the tracks So Good, So Right' and 'Burnin' Up' being cited as influential and ahead of their time (the latter has been acknowledged by Frankie Knuckles as a key track in the development of house music).

Imagination - Body Talk

Imagination formed in 1981 when the trio took a demo tape of a track called 'Body Talk' to producers Jolley & Swain.

It was released as a single in April 1981 under the group name Imagination, a name that the group chose as a tribute to John Lennon. The track reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1981, selling 250,000 copies in the UK and spending eighteen weeks in the Top 50.

The single 'Thank You My Love' was Imagination's 13th single release and came out in 1984. Unlike other singles the relase did not come from any of the groups album releases. Instead the single features on 'The Very Best Of Imagination' commpilation album that came out in the early 1990's. The single was backed by 'Point of No Return' which can be found on the 'Scandalous' Album. 'Thank You My Love' eventually made it to number 22 in the UK Singles Chart.

'The Last Time' was the 17th Single released in 1987 from Imagination and was from their album 'Closer'. The album was recorded in American with producers Arthur Baker, Preston Glass, Nick Martinelli, Ron Kersey and Robert Kraft and released on the RCA label. The single was backed by the track 'Touch (Part One)'. I do not have this so if anyone has it and can share then please let me know.

Imagination - Scandalous - Album

'Scandalous' is the name of the third album, fourth if you count 'Night Dubbing', by the UK band Imagination and was released in 1983. The album was released in the US the following year under the name 'A New Dimension'. The sensual and typical sound of Imagination kept on evolving with the help of Steve Jolley and Tony Swain producing.

This album becomes a bit more funky than 'In The Heat..' and still based on the Imagination formula. More up tempo songs here are 'New Dimension' and 'State Of Love' while there are some wonderful ballads: 'When I See The Fire', 'Wrong In Love' and the superb 'The Need To Be Free'. The album eventually made it to number 25 in the UK album Charts.

Imagination - New Dimension

Formed in 1981 the 3 piece band Imagination, the name was used as a tribute to the late John Lennon consisted of Leee John, Ashley Ingram and Errol Kennedy. Their fusion of British Soul and Dance coupled with their original exotic style helped them to a string of hits across the world and kept them in numerous appearance on TOTP and other various music shows.

Following on from the top 30 hit ‘Looking at Midnight’ Imagination released their 9th single ‘New Dimension’ which was the 2nd single taken from the album Scandalous in 1983. The single was written by Steve Jolley, Tony Swain, Leee John, and Ashley Ingram. The album Scandalous had been renamed ‘New Dimension’ for the American market the following year but the single never gained a release there. Continuing in the distinctive style the single eventually made it to number 56 in the UK charts and 61 in Germany.
