Links Are Dead - I Know

I keep getting Emails from people asking me to re-upload the links and music etc. I think people are just getting to those particular pages so are not reading the reason for the dead links.

So I am putting this in place so hopefully people will read it and stop Emailing me about it.

The reason the links are dead is that my account with Media Fire has been closed with all 11,000 files lost. That is why you can not download the things and No I can not re-upload them.

Eventually I will start doing that again when I have found something suitable. In the meantime this blog will be information only blog.

Thank you all

Michaael

Kate Bush - Suspended In Gaffa

'Suspended in Gaffa' is a song recorded by Kate Bush. It was the third single release from her album The Dreaming in Europe (but not in the UK where 'There Goes a Tenner' was released instead).

The song lyrics are about seeing something one really wants (God in this case), then not being able to see or experience it ever again.

The "gaffa" of the title and chorus refers to gaffer tape, the strong silver-grey tape used by technicians in the film and concert industries.

The B-side is the original mix of 'Ne t'enfuis pas', only released on a handful of singles in late 1982. 'Ne t'enfuis pas', which is misspelled on the original sleeve as 'Ne T'en Fui Pas', means 'Don't run away' in French. In some countries, the B-side was 'Dreamtime' (which originally appeared as the B-side to 'The Dreaming').

A music video was produced for the song, which features Bush performing an interpretive dance in what appears to be a barn.

The single only charted in the Netherlands where it reached number 50 on the Dutch singles chart.

Here completes the little Kate Bush fest that I have done which all have one thing in commen and that being the B-side. Hope you enjoyed it.

Kate Bush - There Goes a Tenner

'There Goes a Tenner' is a song by the British singer Kate Bush. It was released as a single on 2 November 1982, the third to be taken from her album The Dreaming. It was released only in the UK.

'There Goes a Tenner' is often considered to be something of a "lost single", because when it was released it gained no interest from any radio stations or music television programmes (despite a music video being made). Due to the lack of media interest, the single did not sell well and became the only record by Bush not to chart in the UK. It was originally intended to be Bush's first 12-inch single, but plans to release a 12" were cancelled.

The song lyrics are about a (bungled) bank robbery as told by a fearful and paranoid perpetrator. As Bush stated;

"It's about amateur robbers who have only done small things, and this is quite a big robbery that they've been planning for months, and when it actually starts happening, they start freaking out. They're really scared, and they're so aware of the fact that something could go wrong that they're paranoid and want to go home."

Towards the end of the song, the lyrics and tone take on a dream-like state, which is reflected in the video. A review in Record Mirror commented that despite the comic tone of the song, the end left a rather unnerving effect. Bush sang it in what has been described as "a curious accent that seemed to veer from an aristocrat to an East End villain".

The B-side, "Ne t'enfuis pas" ("Don't Run Away") is spelt incorrectly on the actual single as "Ne T'en Fui Pas", which does not mean anything in French. this has been uploaded on yesterdays post.

Kate Bush - Ne t'enfuis Pas

'Ne t'enfuis pas' is a song written and recorded by Kate Bush. It was released in July 1983 in France and Canada. The song was previously issued as a B-side in the UK to the single 'There Goes a Tenner'.

'Ne t'enfuis pas' tells the story of a woman, worried that her lover is about to leave, wrestling with her conscience over her plans to make him stay.

The B-side, 'Un baiser d'enfant', is a French-language version of 'The Infant Kiss', from Bush's album Never for Ever. Based on the movie The Innocents, it is the story of a governess who is frightened by the adult feelings she has for her young male charge (who is possessed by the spirit of a grown man).

In English 'Ne t'enfuis pas' means 'Don't run away'.

Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush - Don't Give Up

'Don't Give Up' is song written by Peter Gabriel and recorded as a duet with Kate Bush for Gabriel's album So.

The single version spent eleven weeks in the UK Top 75 chart in 1986, peaking at number nine.

It describes the despair of a man who feels isolated and defeated by the economic system, and the support and wise counsel sung in the refrain.

There were two videos created for this song by Godley & Creme. The first consisted of a single take of the singers in an embrace, as the sun enters total eclipse and re-emerges. The second featured Gabriel and Bush's faces superimposed over film of a town and its people in disrepair.

Kate Bush - The Dreaming

'The Dreaming' is the title song from Kate Bush's fourth studio album 'The Dreaming' and was released a single on 26 July 1982.

Bush hadn't released a single since 'Sat in Your Lap' thirteen months earlier. 'The Dreaming' made it to number 48 on the UK Singles Chart.

The song is about the destruction of Aboriginal homelands by white Australians in their quest for weapons-grade uranium.

Musical guest Rolf Harris plays the didgeridoo on the recording. Bird impersonator Percy Edwards provided sheep noises.

The original title for the track was 'The Abo Song', which unwittingly made use of a racial slur; promotional 12" copies were circulated before being recalled.

An alternate version of 'The Dreaming', entitled 'Dreamtime', was released by EMI as a single in Canada only. This version, also used as the UK single b-side, is usually referred to as an instrumental version of 'The Dreaming'. This is not strictly true in that while the track omits all the sung lead vocal lyrics it still retains most of the backing vocals such as the stretched dreamtime harmonies heard during the chorus. It is also of note that 'Dreamtime' contains both an extended intro and outro.

Kate Bush - Sat In Your Lap

'Sat in Your Lap' is a song by the British singer Kate Bush. It was the first single to be released from her fourth album The Dreaming, though it was issued 15 months prior to the album which was nowhere near completion at that time. The single peaked at n Number 11 in the UK Singles Chart.

The lyrics of the song deal with humanity's endless search for knowledge, which is often limited by unwillingness to devote the effort necessary to attain it. Musically, it was faster and more percussive than Bush's previous releases.

Kate Bush stated in an early interview that the single version was remixed slightly for inclusion on The Dreaming. The vocals were raised higher and the backing track altered to fit in better with the overall feel of the album.

The demo version of 'Sat in Your Lap' contains an extra verse at the start which was later cut out of the song. As with subsequent singles from the album, a 12 inch single was planned but was eventually withdrawn.

The B-side to the single was a cover version (Bush's first) of 'Lord of the Reedy River' by Donovan.

The single was released following the Zeebrugge Disaster, which had occurred on 6 March 1987 involving the capsizing of the MS Herald of Free Enterprise ferry, which killed 193 passengers and crew. All proceeds from sales of the single were donated to the charity set up in the aftermath of the disaster.

The recording was organised by The Sun newspaper, after they had sold cheap tickets for the ferry on that day. 'Let It Be' was written by Lennon/McCartney and originally recorded by The Beatles in 1969.

Artists to have contributed and performed solo spots on the song are as follows (in order of appearance):

Paul McCartney
Jim Diamond

Pepsi & Shirlie
Mel and Kim
Jaki Graham
Gary Moore (guitar solo)
Mark Knopfler (guitar solo)

Kate Bush - Army Dreamers

'Army Dreamers' was released on 22 September 1980 and peaked at number 16 in the UK Singles Chart. The song is about the effects of war and about a mother who grieves for her young son, who was killed on military maneuvers. Saddened by his unnecessary death, she wrestles with her guilt over what she could have done to prevent it. The song is a change to previous works in that it features a Waltz time tempo and Bush sings the lyrics in an Irish accent.

The single includes two B-sides, 'Delius' and 'Passing Through Air'. 'Delius' is Bush’s tribute to English composer Frederick Delius. The subtitle, 'Song of Summer', comes from one of Delius’ works, and from a BBC film Bush saw about the composer's life. 'Passing Through Air' is one of Bush's earliest works — originally recorded in 1973 at David Gilmour's studio, a few weeks after her 15th birthday.

The music video opens on a closeup of Kate Bush, dressed in dark green camouflage, holding a child. She blinks in synchronisation with the song's sampled gun cocks. The camera pulls out and shows that Bush has a white-haired child on her lap. The child walks off and returns in military combat uniform. Bush and several soldiers (one of whom has "KT8" or "KTB" stencileld on the butt of his rifle: "KTB" was a monogram used by bush early in her career) make their way through woodland, amid explosions. As the song progresses, Bush reaches out for the child soldier, but he disappears. Finally, one of the soldiers is blown up.

Bush has stated that this video is one of the few examples of her work that completely satisfies her. "For me that's the closest that I've got to a little bit of film. And it was very pleasing for me to watch the ideas I'd thought of actually working beautifully. Watching it on the screen. It really was a treat, that one. I think that's the first time ever with anything I've done I can actually sit back and say "I liked that" That's the only thing. Everything else I can sit there going "Oh look at that, that's out of place". So I'm very pleased with that one, artistically".

Kate Bush - Breathing

'Breathing' is a single by Kate Bush, the first cut from her 1980 album Never For Ever, with backing vocals by Roy Harper.

The single was issued on April 14, 1980, four months before the album was released, and reached number 16 in the UK charts. It was the first single by Bush to feature a non-LP track on its B-side, 'The Empty Bullring'.

'Breathing' is about a foetus, very much aware of what is going on outside the womb and frightened by nuclear fallout, which implies that the song is set either during a nuclear war scare or a post-apocalyptic birth. The lyrics also refer to the foetus absorbing nicotine from the mother's smoking. In an interview that year Bush described the song as her 'little symphony', adding that she considered it her best work to date.

The music video features Bush in a womb portraying a foetus.

Kate Bush - Babooshka

'Babooshka' is a song by British singer Kate Bush, taken from her album Never for Ever. Released as a single in June 1980, it spent 10 weeks in the UK chart, peaking at number five. It was an even bigger hit in Australia, where it was the 20th best-selling single of the year.

The song chronicles a wife's desire to test her husband's loyalty. To do so, she takes on the nom de plume of Babooshka and sends notes to her husband in the guise of a younger woman -- something which she fears is the opposite of how her husband currently sees her (Hence the barbed lines: "Just like his wife before she "freezed" on him/Just like his wife when she was beautiful...").

The trap is set when, in her bitterness and paranoia, Babooshka arranges to meet her husband, who is attracted to the character that reminds him of his wife in earlier times. She thereby ruins the relationship due to her paranoia, according to Kate Bush's 1980 interview with the Australian TV series Countdown.

The music video depicts Bush beside a double bass (contrabass) which symbolises the husband, wearing a black bodysuit and a veil in her role as the embittered wife. This changes into an extravagant, mythlike and rather sparse 'Russian' costume as her alter-ego, Babooshka.

The track features John Giblin on bass and marks the significance of fretless bass sounds as instrumental "male" partners through Kate's music in the early eighties.

Kate Bush said that's "something I didn't realise at the time," when she learnt that Babushka is the Russian word for "grandmother" (although the stress in Russian falls on the first syllable, not the second).

'Babooshka' became Bush's second top five hit in the UK and was certified silver for sales of over 250,000 by the BPI.

The B-Side contains her song 'Ran Tan Waltz', her second non-album B-Side. This song is performed as a tragicomedy, where Bush portrays a man bemoaning his bad luck in life being married to a wayward mother. This song also signifies Bush's first use of an expletive in one of her recordings (the word "dick" as cacophemism for penis).

Kate Bush - December Will Be Magic Again

'December Will Be Magic Again' was written and originally recorded in 1979 by Kate Bus. However, the single was not released until 17th November 1980.

The single peaked at number 29 on the UK Singles Chart, but due to its early release date had slipped before the Christmas week chart.

No promotional video was filmed for this single, but an alternate recording of the song was performed on Bush's 1979 Christmas television special. In addition to the version on the single release, another very different cut exists (on CD) with bongos and slide whistles on the rhythm track. Neither have ever appeared on a Kate Bush album, except for the This Woman's Work box set but both have managed to find their way on to various Christmas compilations.

The B-side was 'Warm and Soothing', a simple piece of Bush singing with just her piano accompaniment. In this sense it was similar in style to 'In the Warm Room' and 'Feel It' from her first two albums. This was the first song she recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

Initial pressings of the 7" single have "Cut by Chris Blair", "Songs & arrangements by Kate Bush", and "Cover by Nick Price" centered on the rear sleeve. Reissues have these acknowledgements spread out across the bottom. Originals also have "Happy Christmas" etched into the dead wax on Side A. The song was featured on the 12" single of "Experiment IV" and later on the second of two CD editions of the "Moments of Pleasure" single in 1993 and had a slightly different mix. In 2006 the song was included on Elton John's Christmas album, Elton John's Christmas Party.

Each year around Christmas, the song frequently receives airplay on various U.K. radio stations.
