Links Are Dead - I Know

I keep getting Emails from people asking me to re-upload the links and music etc. I think people are just getting to those particular pages so are not reading the reason for the dead links.

So I am putting this in place so hopefully people will read it and stop Emailing me about it.

The reason the links are dead is that my account with Media Fire has been closed with all 11,000 files lost. That is why you can not download the things and No I can not re-upload them.

Eventually I will start doing that again when I have found something suitable. In the meantime this blog will be information only blog.

Thank you all

Michaael

Timerider - Cocoon

Published by All Boys Music Ltd, Distributed by Pinnacle'Cocoon' was first released in 1985.

In 1988 the single was used as the Theme song from the Granada TV Show "The Hitman & Her" and was also used in the film "The Fruit Machine" starring Robbie Coltraine.

I have included a video for this to download but not sure if this is official or a fan made video. I feel that it is fan made.

This is classic Camp euro pop which was very popular, especially in Europe and which is still good today.

Breathe - Any Trick

The U.K. quartet Breathe was the most popular of several late -'80s acts like Waterfront and Johnny Hates Jazz, which combined lush easy listening pop with a light George Michael-style touch of R&B.
Breathe was just as derivative as its counterparts, but vocalist David Glasper was gifted with a warm, pitch-perfect voice.

'Any Trick' is a lesser known track released from the bands widely succesful 'All That Jazz' album. Released in 1988 the track has a funky dance beat and David Glasper's brilliant vocal. Unfortunatly the single failed to make it into the UK and US singles charts. A fantastic treat, and a classic lost 80's gem.

I don't know if this single ever had a video for it. I assumed that there was one but have never seen it. If anyone has this to share then please let me know.

Adam And The Ants - Stand And Deliver

'Stand and Deliver' was Adam and the Ants' most successful single. It entered the UK Top 40 at Number One and stayed there for five weeks. It was featured on their Prince Charming album. The lyric "stand and deliver - your money or your life" was a phrase commonly used by highwaymen in eighteenth century England during robberies.

The song's video features Adam Ant dressed as a "dandy highwayman" who is captured and escapes being hanged from the gallows with help from his accomplices (his band members). The video's opening sequence of Adam Ant putting on his make-up before going out on a robbery became a defining visual image for Adam Ant in the years that followed. The video also has an early appearance by Amanda Donohoe who at the time was Adam's girlfriend.

Breathe - Jonah

‘Jonah’, by Breathe, was taken from their versatile debut album ‘All That Jazz’, was chosen as the follow-up single to the Top 5 hit ‘Hands to Heaven’ in 1988.

This single is an uptempo mix of powerful pop and laid-back charm effortlessly displaying the strong vocal talents of lead singer David Glasper and the band's solid musical structuring.

The song is a love song with Glasper's soulful voice riding over a bed of Hammond organ and propelled by a full Philadelphia-style horn section.

The video was made by Godley and Creme Productions. The single made it to number 60 in the UK Singles Chart but was not released in the US.

Dollar - It's Nature's Way

Dollar had been having a difficult time by the time this last single was released in 1988. There had been internal arguments since the band reformed 2 years previously.

'It's Natures Way' only made it to number 58 in the UK singles Chart. Couple with the bands arguments and delayes in recording a new album the band soon parted again.

I always liked this single and felt that it should have been a bigger hit.

Breathe - Don't Tell Me Lies

‘Don't Tell Me Lies’ is the title of the debut single by the group Breathe. It was written by group members David Glasper (lead vocals) and Marcus Lillington (guitar, keyboard). The B-Side was called ‘Monday Morning Blues’. ‘Don’t Tell Me Lies’ was recorded sometime during the mid 1980s, shortly after the formation of the original lineup of the group. Released as a single in the UK in early 1986, the song was a modest success, reaching number 77 on the UK Singles Chart and providing the group with their first national exposure. By 1987, Breathe had secured an album deal, and the result of that was their debut, ‘All That Jazz’. Original pressings of the album did not contain 'Don't Tell Me Lies', but the track was added on subsequent pressings soon after.

Following the international success of other singles from the album 'Hands To Heaven' and 'How Can I Fall'), 'Don't Tell Me Lies' was re-issued as a single in the UK and released as the group's third single in the United States. The song made a bigger impact on the British pop chart this time round, peaking at number 45 in March 1989. The song is more uptempo than the Ballads for which Breathe had become associated.

Jermaine Stewart - We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off

'We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off' is a 1986 song by Jermaine Stewart from his album Frantic Romantic. The track was written by Narada Michael Walden and Preston Glass. This song acquired a great deal of success after being used on hit 1980s television show Miami Vice, and reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as going to number 5 in the U.S.

The single also appeared in director Kevin Smith's most recent movie, Zack and Miri Make A Porno as well as the episode "My Dirty Secret" of the television show Scrubs.

I loved this when it came out and played the 12 inch to death especially the B-Side 'Brilliance' which was just a beautiful song and will always be one of my favourites by Jermaine Stewart.

Loose Ends - Hanging On A String

Loose Ends was a successful English R&B band that had several urban contemporary hits. The trio were formed in London in 1980, initially comprising vocalist and guitarist Carl McIntosh, vocalist Jane Eugene, and Keyboard player, writer and founder Steve Nichol. The latter two left the group in 1989, bringing an end to the band's most successful phase.

The group were originally called Loose End and signed to Virgin records in 1981. Their debut material was written for them by Chris Amoo and Eddie Amoo, who had had UK Singles Chart success of their own in the 1970's, with their group The Real Thing. The trio changed their name to Loose Ends in 1983 and continued to record for Virgin Records.

'Hangin' on a String (Contemplating)' is the fourth single by Loose Ends from their second studio album, 'So Where Are You?', and was released in February 1985 by Virgin Records.

The single made it to number 13 in the UK Singles Chart.

Five Star - Find The Time

'Find the Time' is the 1986 hit single by Five Star, peaking at number 7 in the UK Singles Chart in July of that year and becoming the second release from their million-plus selling second album Silk And Steel.

The single was written by Nick Trevisick and Paul Gurvitz who had previously written the single 'R.S.V.P.' for the band the previous year.

The video features a colourful setting with the band performing an impressive dance routine alongside the River Thames and the Houses of Parliament.

Michael Jackson - Rock With You

'Rock with You' was released on November 3, 1979, as the second single from Michael Jackson's fifth solo LP and breakthrough album, Off The Wall.

The single was written by Heatwave group member and songwriter Rod Temperton, and helped Jackson score one of the first US Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles in the 1980s, as well as one of the last big hits of the disco era.

The single made it to number 7 in the UK Singles Chart and also reached number one on both the US pop and R&B singles chart and became one of Jackson's most-loved songs.

A video for the song shows a smiling Jackson dancing in a sequined suit against a background laser. It was re-released as a single on February 27, 2006, as part of the Visionary: The Video Singles box set.

I know that this track was relesed in 1979 and not the 80's. However it is such an 80's song and released so close, and a track that I do love, so I decided to post it for everyone to enjoy.

All About Eve - Martha's Harbour

All about Eve's success was slowly rising, until this single was released. 'Martha's harbour', a rather uncharacteristic ballad by the band, was their first and last top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at number 10 and helping the group's self titled debut album reach number 7 in the UK albums chart.

On its creation, Julianne Regan commented: 'This song happened by accident when we were recording the first album. It was one of those things when we had the day off and we were sat in this very idyllic setting beneath a willow tree besides a stream by this beautiful residential recording studio and it just came out so naturally. It was a miracle of a little song and its very dear to us because of that, because it was very pure, a really happy accident. Everybody went to the pub and we put it down and by the time they got back Martha's Harbour was committed to tape. Martha's Harbour is a fictitious backdrop for this happening.'

The song is also well-known for an incident on the popular BBC UK music show Top Of The Pops, when the group, ready to do a mimed (as was BBC policy at the time) performance of their hit, Julianne Regan and Tim Bricheno can't hear the backing track for the first half of the song, so are just sitting there with the track playing to TV viewers. Due to this error on the part of the BBC, the band were invited back the following week and insisted on playing the song live. Shame that this is one of the main reasons they are remembered but it probably contributed to their success at the time - this single rose up the charts for the next two weeks!

This is one of the most beautiful songs of the 80's. I loved this when it was released and loved it when I saw them perform it live.

Enya - Orinoco Flow

Enya was born as Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáin on May 17, 1961 in Gaoth Dobhair, also known as Gweedore in Ireland. She got involved in music when she joined the family band Clannad in 1980. She went solo six years later, when she was contacted to provide music for the BBC television documentary 'The Celts'.

In 1988, Enya achieved an international breakthrough when she released her second solo album 'Watermark'. The single 'Orinoco flow' - the single features an edited version of the album track - sounded fresh and original to the world, and went number 1 in the Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland and the UK.

The song is often incorrectly referred to as "Sail Away", a phrase repeated during the chorus. The American version of the single, which reached number 24 in the Billboard Hot 100, however, was retitled "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)".

The song was highly popular in the early 1990s and was featured on many pop music compilations. It shares part of its name with Orinoco Studios (now Miloco Studios), where it was recorded.

The division of syllables to follow the pattern of music may trick the listener into thinking that the song is written in Latin (as some Enya tracks are), but the lyrics are in fact English. In 1998 a special edition 10th anniversary remix single was released.

Michael Jackson - One Day In Your Life

'One Day in Your Life' recorded by Michael Jackson for his 1975 album, Forever, Michael. The single was re-released in 1981 due to the strong buzz that generated from the sales of Jackson's hit album, 1979's Off The Wall, even though Jackson released the album on a different label.

While a modest U.S. hit, it was a bigger hit in the U.K., where it became Jackson's first solo recording to hit number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. It was number one in the UK for 2 weeks in June 1981, succeeding 'Being with You' by Smokey Robinson.

It went on to become the 6th best-selling single of 1981 in the UK.

Another slow track by Michael that I loved. I always enjoyed the ballads that Michael brought out and always will.

The Lotus Eaters - It Hurts

'It hurts' was the last hit single for the Lotus Eaters - although this is stretching the term 'hit' a little. Released in1985, it reached number 87 in the UK Singles Chart. The track was taken from their album 'No sense of sin' (1984), which flopped in the UK, but got a significant cult following in Japan and the Philippines.

Monsoon - Shakti

Monsoon followed up their success to 'Ever So Lonley' with their new single 'Shakti (The Meaning Of Within)'. This was the bands 2nd single from the album.

Shakti, from Sanskrit shak - "to be able," meaning sacred force or empowerment, is the primordial cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that move through the entire universe. Shakti is the concept, or personification, of divine feminine creative power, sometimes referred to as 'The Great Divine Mother' in Hinduism. On the earthly plane, Shakti most actively manifests through female embodiment and fertility.

The single made it to number 41 in the UK Singles Charts. An album called 'Third Eye' was released the following year.

Michael Jackson - Human Nature

'Human Nature' is an R&B song by Michael Jackson. It was written by Steve Porcaro and John Bettis, and was produced by Quincy Jones for the singer's sixth solo album, Thriler (1982).

Initially, Porcaro had recorded a rough demo of the song on a cassette, which was then given to Jones. Enjoying the demo, Jones had the ballad included on the Thriller album. The song was the last selected for the album, ousting 'Carousel' from the final track listing.

'Human Nature' was released on July 3, 1983, as the album's fifth single. Although not released in the UK, the song achieved chart success in the US. Reaching number two on Billboard's Hot Adult Contemporary chart and number seven on the Hot 100, the song became Jackson's fifth Top 10 hit from Thriller. In New Zealand the single reached number 11.

I don't think a video was made for this release. If anyone does have the video and is willing to share then please let me know.

Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson - Say Say Say

'Say Say Say' is a song by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. The track was written by the duo, and produced by George Martin Martin for McCartney's fifth solo album, Pipes of Peace (1983).

The song was the pair's second duet, following ' The Girl is Mine' for Jackson's Thriller album (1982). Recorded at the same time as McCartney's Tug of War album, the single became Jackson's seventh top ten hit in a year upon its release in October, 1983.

'Say Say Say' was a number one hit in the US and peaked at number two in the UK. Number one in Canada, Finland, Italy, Norway and Sweden, the single peaked within the top ten of Austria and New Zealand.

The video, filmed in Santa Ynez Valley, California, featured cameo appearances by Linda 'McCartney, and La Toya Jackson. The short film centered around two con artists, 'Mac and Jack', and introduced dialogue and storylines to music videos. Upon its release, the video was considered too violent by the National Coalition on Television Violence.

Dead Or alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)

'You spin me 'round (like a record)' was taken from Dead or Alive's 1985 album 'Youthquake'. This song was the first UK number-one hit for the Stock Aitken Waterman production trio. Released in November 1984 it was a slow starter in the UK. It lingered outside the singles top 40 chart for a couple of months before the record reached number one in March 1985, taking seventeen weeks to get there. In the US, it peaked at number 11 in September of that year. The single was also a top 3 hit in Australia and Italy, and peaking at number 6 in the Netherlands.

The original cut was over four minutes long and was edited for the album. The unedited version was released on an '80's CD called Monster '80s Volume Two.

Dead or Alive was formed around singer Peter Burns, who attracted attention with his eccentric image, which was often compared to then-popular Culture Club frontman Boy George. At the time of its release, one of the band members was Wayne Hussey, who would go on to work with the Sisters of Mercy, and then form The Mission.

The video was directed by Vaughan Arnell and Anthea Benton.

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney - The Girl Is Mine

'The Girl Is Mine' is a song by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. The track was written by Jackson, and was produced by Quincy Jones for the singer's sixth solo album, Thriller (1982). The song was recorded at Westlake Studios, Los Angeles, from April 14 to 16, 1982. The year before, Jackson and McCartney had recorded 'Say Say Say' and 'The Man' for the Latter's fifth solo album, Pipes od Peace (1983). Listeners were not impressed by 'The Girl Is Mine'; they felt that Jackson and Quincy Jones had created a song for the white pop audience.

Despite the public feeling, 'The Girl Is Mine' achieved success in the music charts. The single reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart and topped the R&B Singles Chart, while peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
'The Girl Is Mine' has been the subject of two plagiarism lawsuits. Both instances required Jackson to testify in court, and each lawsuit found in the favour of the singer and his record label. In 2008, for the 25th anniversary edition of Thriller, Black Eyed Peas single will,i,am remixed 'The Girl Is Mine'. The remix received generally unfavourable reviews from music critics.

'System Addict' is a 1986 hit single by British pop group Five Star. It would become their second biggest-selling single with over 220,000 sales recorded. It was also the group's first Top 10 hit, reaching number 3 in the UK Singles Chart spending 11 weeks in the charts.

'System Addict' was remixed and re-released in July 2005. Although it did not repeat its 1986 success, it did hit number 1 on the UK Dance Chart.
