André Cymone - The Dance Electric

André Cymone (born Andre Simon Anderson) is an American bassist, songwriter and record producer.

Cymone was a bass guitarist for recording artist Prince's touring band, pre-Revolution.

Cymone began a solo career in 1981. His song, 'The Dance Electric' was written by Prince and reached number 10 on the US R&B charts.

Cymone later co-wrote and produced songs for other acts, including Jody Watley's 'Looking for a New Love', 'Still A Thrill' and 'Real Love'.

Dollie De Luxe - Lenge Leve Livet

The duo Dollie de Luxe represented Norway in the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest with 'Lenge leve livet'.

The song is a modern ballad, with the duo singing the praises of life. They explain that it makes sense to live to the full, because nobody knows for sure what the future may bring.

The song finished 17th in a field of 19 competitors with 29 points and did not chart in the UK.

Shock - Angel Face

Shock is a music/mime/dance/pop group that was notable in the early 1980s for supporting English pop groups such as Gary Numan, Adam and the Ants, Depeche Mode and Famous Names, led by Steve Fairnie.

Based in London, England, Shock performed in clubs like The Haçienda, The Warehouse (Leeds) and The Blitz Club (home of the Blitz Kids) and The Venue (London). With costumes from Kahn and Bell (designers for Duran Duran), miming to music by Fad Gadget, Landscape, Kate Bush and Wilson Pickett, they found themselves in the vanguard of the New Romantic cult of the early '80's, alongside Boy George, Duran Duran, Steve Strange and Spandau Ballet.

Their first record 'Angel Face' on RCA Records -- with production by Rusty Egan (Visage) and Richard James Burgess (Landscape) -- was a dance floor hit. Released in 1980 the single did not chart.

Avi Toledano - Hora

'Hora' (Hebrew script: הורה, English translation: 'Hora') was the Israeli entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1982, performed in Hebrew by Avi Toledano.

The song is a moderately up-tempo number, with Toledano singing about the joy he feels in seeing parts of his country and dancing the traditional 'Hora' folk dance.

The song was performed fifteenth on the night. At the close of voting, it had received 100 points, placing 2nd in a field of 18.

The Beat - Jeanette

In 1982 The Beat released their 11th single entitled 'Jeanette' from their album 'Special Beat Service'.

'March of the Swivelheads', an instrumental version of the Beat's song 'Rotating Head'. was chosen as the B-Side.

This B-Side track was also used in the climactic chase scene of 1986's Ferris Bueller's Day Off; the band was listed in the end credits as The (English) Beat.

Olivia Newton-John - New Single

I have also been contacted by the Austalian Creative Collective to let me know that Olivia Newton-John is to release a new single.

It is a remake of her classic from 1980 entitled 'Magic'.

Here is the information that I was sent:

We're Australian Creative Collective (WACCI) have been raising funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre through a variety of initiatives. The latest project is a charity single.

WACCI enlisted two Aussies - DJ Dan Murphy & producer Steve Peach - to create an updated dance version of the 1980 Number 1 hit.

Olivia went back to the studio to re-sing the vocals and the new version is an uplifting slice of radio-friendly pop!

Everybody working on this project has volunteered their time & talent, and all proceeds are being donated to Olivia's charity.

Olivia will present the world premiere of the song on Dancing With The Stars on Sunday May 22nd.

It will also be released exclusively on iTunes on Sunday May 22nd.

So again get out there and start downloading purchasing this track for a worthwhile cause.

I have been contacted by the fan club of Kajagoogoo this week letting me know about the new single by the Original line up of the band. Here is the information:

Kajagoogoo’s original five members - Limahl (Lead Vocals), Nick Beggs (Bass/Vocals), Steve Askew (Guitar/Vocals), Jez Strode (Drums) and Stuart Croxford Neale (Keyboards/Vocals) have an exciting new single release. Promoted by the fans, for the fans, this is very much a labour of love.

Celine Dion - Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi

'Ne partez pas sans moi' ('Don't Leave Without Me') is the Swiss winning entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1988, performed by Céline Dion.

It was released as a single in Europe on May 6, 1988.

The song composed by Turkish songwriter named Atilla Şereftuğ and Swiss composer Nella Martinetti won with 137 points, beating the United Kingdom entry 'Go' performed by Scott Fitzgerald by just one point in one of the closest finishes in Eurovision history.

The single sold 200,000 copies in Europe in two days and over 300,000 copies in total.

The single did not make it to the UK Singles Chart but managed to get to number 11 in Switzerland and Belgium and number 36 in the French chart.

Fashion - Love Shadow

Fashion were a British New Wave band from Birmingham consisting of Dee Harris, Al 'Luke Sky' James, Alan Darby, John Mulligan, Marlon Recchi and Dik Davis.

Their 9th single release was entitled 'Love Shadow'.

Released in 1982 from their Fabrique album the single made it to number 51 in the UK singles Chart.

Sandra Kim - J'aime La Vie

'J'aime la vie' was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1986, performed for Belgium by Sandra Kim.

Belgium had finished the 1985 Contest in last place, and thus achieved the rare turnaround from last to first in the space of one year.

The song also marks the only time to date that Belgium has won the Contest.

The single did not chart in the UK but did manged to make it to number 2 in the Dutch Chart, number 6 in the Austrain chart and number 15 in the Swedish chart to name a few.

Bobbysocks - La Det Swinge

'La det swinge' ('Let it swing') is a song in Norwegian, sung by the pop duo Bobbysocks!.

It was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 - Norway's first victory in the contest with a total of 123 points.

The single made it to number 44 in the UK singles Chart but managed to get to number 1 in both Norway and Belgium.

Prima Donna - Love Enough For Two

Prima Donna were the United Kingdom representatives in the Eurovision Song Contest 1980.

The group comprised sisters Kate Robbins and Jane Robbins, Sally Ann Triplett, Danny Finn, Alan Coates and Lance Aston (brother of Jay Aston, who performed with Bucks Fizz, the following year's contest winners, who went on to enjoy a string of major hits).

Prima Donna performed the song 'Love Enough for Two' which finished in third place, with 106 points. The song was written and composed by Stephanie de Sykes and Stuart Slater. It was their second entry to reach the Eurovision final, having also composed 'The Bad Old Days' in 1978 for Co-Co (which until 1987, was the worst placed UK entry in Eurovision history).

'Love Enough For Two' was also the first UK entry, since 1964, not to make the UK Singles Chart prior to the Eurovision final, eventually peaking there at number 48.

Katja Ebstein - Theater - It's Showtime

Katja Ebstein, (9 March 1945) is a German singer. She was born in Girlachsdorf (now Gniewków, Poland).

She represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest three times: Eurovision Song Contest 1970, Eurovision Song Contest 1971 and Eurovision Song Contest 1980.

Katja Ebstein performed 'Theater' during the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest.

She came 2nd in the contest with a total points amount of 128 losing to Johnny Logan of Ireland with the winning song 'What's Another Year'.

The single was released in Germany, France and the UK where it was renamed to 'It's Showtime'. Each single sleeve had a different colour to Ebstein's name making it easier to tell them apart.

A-Ha - Take On Me

'Take on Me' is a song by the Norwegian pop band A-ha. Written by the band members, the song was produced by Alan Tarney for the group's first studio album Hunting High and Low, released in 1985.

The original 'Take on Me' was recorded in 1984, and took three releases to chart in the United Kingdom, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart in November 1985. In the United States the song reached the top position of the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1985, due in no small part to the wide exposure of its memorable and cutting-edge music video on MTV, directed by Steve Barron.

Two videos were made for the song. The first release of 'Take on Me' in 1984 includes a completely different recording, and was featured in the first video, which shows the band singing with a blue background. The second video was directed by Steve Barron, and filmed at Kim's Café and on a sound stage in London, in 1985. The video used a pencil-sketch animation/live-action combination called rotoscoping, in which the live-action footage is traced-over frame by frame to give the characters realistic movements. The video won six awards, and was nominated for two others at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards.

Sweet Dreams - I'm Never Giving Up

'I'm Never Giving Up', written and composed by Ron Roker, Jan Pulsford, and Phil Wigger, was the United Kingdom's entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1983, performed by the trio Sweet Dreams.

Sweet Dreams were a UK vocal group comprising Carrie Gray, Helen Kray and Bobby McVay.

Carrie Gray eventually married David Grant and became a vocul coach.

After Eurovision, the song made it to number 21 on the UK Singles Chart during an eight week run. It would become Sweet Dreams' only hit before they disbanded at the end of 1983.

Hall And Oates - Family Man

'Family Man' is a single originally by musician Mike Oldfield, released in 1982. It was released from the album Five Miles Out, with vocals performed by Maggie Reilly.

In 1983 the American duo Hall & Oates covered Oldfield's song and released as their 26th single release.

The single made it to number 6 on the US Hot 100 and number 15 in the UK singles Charts.

Sheeba - Horoscopes

The Irish girlgroup Sheeba was formed in 1977 by Maxi, Marion Fossett and Frances Campbell.

In 1981 they represented Ireland during the Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Horoscopes'.

The group came 5th with a total of 105 points.

The single did managed to make it to number 3 in their home country but failed to chart any where else.

Johnny Logan - What's Another Year

'What's Another Year" was Johnny Logan's first Eurovision Song Contest winner, achieving success in the 1980 edition of the Contest. This was Ireland's second Contest victory. Composed by Shay Healy, the song reached number one in the UK for two weeks in May.

The song is often misinterpreted as a power ballad, sung from the point of view of a man who has been waiting for the girl of his dreams to fall in love with him. In reality, the song was written by Shay Healy, about watching his father coming to terms with the death of his wife and companion, Mairin.

When showband frontman Glen Curtin, the original choice of singer, turned down 'What's Another Year', the song was rearranged by Bill Whelan to suit Johnny Logan's singing style.

The success of 'What's Another Year' launched Logan's Eurovision career (he would go on to success in 1987 with 'Hold Me Now'). In addition, the song was selected as one of the 14 greatest Eurovision entries in a special to mark the 50th anniversary of the contest.

In Germany, Johnny Logan released a German language version of 'What's Another Year', entitled 'Was ist schon ein Jahr'.

ABC - The Lexicon Of Love - Album

The Lexicon of Love is the acclaimed chart-topping debut album by British pop band ABC, released in 1982. It is a concept album in which the singer experiences heartache as he tries and fails to have a meaningful relationship.

It was produced by Trevor Horn, engineered by Gary Langan, and featured orchestration by Anne Dudley and Fairlight CMI programming by JJ Jeczalik; Horn, Langan, Dudley and Jeczalik would later form the Art of Noise. Indeed, most of the production team and sessions players listed below would form the basis for the ZTT label, and their work with Horn meant all concerned would be in constant demand throughout the industry for years to come. The album reached number 1 on the British charts, and peaked at number 24 in the U.S. charts.

In 1998, Q magazine readers voted The Lexicon of Love the 92nd greatest album of all time. In 2000 the same magazine placed it at number 40 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever.
