'Nothing Has Been Proved' was composed for the 1989 film Scandal, an account of the so called Profumo Affair, a British public scandal in 1963 which profoundly affected the ruling Conservative Party government. The lyrics of the song describe the actual course of the events and mention the main characters involved; Mandy Rice-Davies, Christine Keeler and Stephen Ward. The song also includes the line "Please Please Me's number one", a reference to The Beatles' charttopping debut single released in January of 1963.
'Nothing Has Been Proved' was later included as a track on Springfield's successful comeback album Reputation, released in 1990.'Nothing Has Been Proved' made number 16 in the UK Singles Chart and led to further chart success for Springfield.
