Robert Allen Palmer (19 January 1949 – 26 September 2003), born in Batley, Yorkshire, was a Grammy Award-winning English singer-songwriter.He was known for his distinctive voice and the eclectic mix of musical styles on his albums, combining soul, jazz, rock, pop, reggae and blues.
In 1986 Palmer released a cover version of the single 'I didn't mean to turn you on', originally performed by Cherrelle back in 1984.
this single couipled with the distinctive video helped it to make it to number 9 on the UK singles chart and number 2 on the US Hot 100 Chart.
